Did you know? NFL observations

If you read any of the stuff I write you know that I love numbers. They never tell the whole story, but some of the more obscure statistics can shed light on what is going right or what is going wrong with your team. For example, we all know that the Bears redzone percentage is how you say, not good. We all also know that Aaron Rodgers has an excellent QB Rating for the 2009 season.

But what about some of those numbers you're not so familiar with? That's what I'll have some fun with today.

Did you know...

How important Yards Per Pass was? Of the top 15 quarterbacks in the category, only two lead teams with a record of .500 or worse. Those two would be Jason Campbell of Washington and Matt Schaub of Houston.

Also, only one QB who throws for less than seven yards per pass play has a winning record, and that is Carson Palmer of the Bengals. For reference Aaron Rodgers is at 8.25 YDA, Jay Cutler gets 6.61 per pass.

Did you know...

Chris Johnson of the Titans has ran for 20+ yards on one play 19 times this season? That is one less than Adrian Peterson, Ryan Grant, Matt Forte and Kevin Smith, combined! The NFC North running backs have a total of 20 runs of 20 yards or more, 11 of those are from AP.

Did you know...

Detroit has more first downs and converts on more third downs than the Chicago Bears, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Denver Broncos?

Did you know...

That Drew Brees' five touchdown passes on Monday Night were as many as the Oakland Raiders have thrown all season?

Did you know...

That Brees and Brett Favre combined for 763 yards passing in Week 12? That is more than half the total of passing yards the Oakland Raiders have accumulated in all of 2009 (1,431). Yikes.

Did you know...

That four of the top five rushing teams in the NFL are below .500? Only one of the teams in the top ten in passing yards per game is below .500, the Houston Texans.

Did you know...

That one out of every eight reception by the New Orleans Saints goes for a touchdown? Contrast that with the Packers 1 of every 11 and the Bears 1 of every 16. For Oakland it is one of every 30.

Did you know...

That Cleveland punts a lot? Not surprising I'm sure. They have punted 72 times this season, just four more times than New England and New Orleans combined.

Did you know...

When it comes to rushing attempts only one player in the top 20 in the category is averaging under 50 yards per game? That guy is Matt Forte at 49.4 YPG.

Did you know...

That Devin Hester has more catches in 2009 than Greg Jennings and Marques Coltson? Both have over 800 yards on the season, however, while Hester sits at 634.

Did you know...

That in the Bears four wins Jay Cutler has 7 TD's and 2 INT's? In their seven losses those numbers are 9 and 18.

Did you know...

That in the Packers seven wins Rodgers has 14 TD's and 1 INT? In their four losses those numbers are 8 and 4.

Did you know...

That Brett Favre has never had a QB Rating over 100 for a season, has never averaged more than 7.8 yards per pass, has never thrown fewer than 13 INT's, has never completed more that 66.5% of his passes in a season? He is on pace to do all those things at 40 years old in 2009.

That's all.
