T.O. to the Bears? Oh, boy.

In case Milton Bradley wasn't enough for the North Side of Chicago, Adam Schefter of ESPN gives us this little nugget:

Owens a fit in Chicago?

Terrell Owens | Bills | Interested: Bears?
According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, the Bills might want to consider what the market would offer for Terrell Owens.

It makes a lot of sense for the Bills to dangle T.O., he notes. Owens is in the last year of a one-year, $6.5 million contract. If Buffalo were to trade Owens, they could get back a mid-round draft pick for a player who will be free to walk away from the organization after this season in a year when the Bills are no longer viewed as a playoff contender.

What's more, the Bills would save about two-thirds of his salary -- over $4 million, a nice tidy sum for a franchise that has looked for alternative ways to generate revenue (and he's already helped them sell-out for the rest of the year). Schefter believes it would take a playoff-caliber team that needed a wide receiver to help make this trade work. But a team such as Chicago, which could use a play-making wide receiver to help unseat the first-place Minnesota Vikings, might find it worthwhile to part with a mid-round pick for an offensive playmaker that can help make a difference this season.

Okay, so this is just a spreading of a rumor, but an intriguing idea none the less. Could you imagine Jay Cutler and Terrell Owens in the same huddle or even on the same sideline? Personally I think it would be a recipe for disaster, but I have been wrong before (Milton Bradley).

The Bears have a nice little core of number two and three receivers, but they lack a solid number one. I'm not sure Owens provides that anymore, but I also know that you aren't going to find one at this point in the season.

The Bears are known for their futility at the quarterback position over the years, and because of that they haven't had a 1,000-yard receiver since 2002 when Marty Booker caught 97 passes for 1,189-yards. That's right, 2002. That takes you back to Anthony Thomas, Jim Miller and Chris Chandler, and lest we forget Henry Burris.

That was back in the day when Mike Brown played 16 games and Keith Traylor clogged the D-line. Heck, Dez White was catching passes back then.

I can see the reasons for a move like this. I can also see so many reasons why not to do it. So hear is to hoping that this is one rumor that dies quick.

A proven Pro Bowl Rec., why not? We haven't had a decent QB in ages, and now people are freakin out about a potential #1 Rec. coming to Da Bears Come on Chi-Town, we don't have anything to loose other than another mid round draft pick. Who cares? Live it up!

Thanks Derek. The idea of Owens is nice, but there is also the worry of the baggage he brings with him. You don't have to look any further than the Cubs to see what kind of a gamble this could be.

I think that is the big concern with something like this.
